My background is less traditional than many faculty members. I graduated from a small liberal arts college in 1991 with a fine arts degree and worked in marketing and project management for over ten years for corporate, government, and non-profits. In 2004 I took a six-month position as the project manager for a joint research project with the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University. That six-months turned into three years and a full-time position as a Research Scientist. During that time, I fell in love with research; specifically, managing large research initiatives focused on exploring learning and technology that addressed diversity, equity, and inclusion. In 2007 I started my Ph.D. at Georgia Tech and graduated in 2012 in Human-Centered Computing from the College of Computing. That same year I started as faculty at Georgia Tech and now hold the rank of Associate Professor and recently was Interim Chair of the School of Interactive Computing (IC). Thus, my pathway to and through academia combined management, research, and creativity across fields, preparing me to lead students and faculty in interdisciplinary environment
